Think Green
On Edge Skating is a first of it’s kind Green Rink facility. Being environmentally friendly is the cornerstone of our business practices. From the rink itself on up including specific programs that are a first among the skating industry. Some of our programs are outlined below.
Our Rink:
Our surface is made up of a high tech plastic polymer that uses a safe non toxic non staining glide enhancer which is EPA safe. Since we do not require pipes, refrigeration, compressors, or Zamboni’s. Our facility has a very small foot print. The Average rink spends $5,000 or more each month on utilities.
Our usage and utilities run the same as a small office. We use very little water consumption. We use well under 100 gallons monthly while most refrigerated rinks use over 350,000 gallons of water each month. Skating on our brand of synthetic has a major affect on the environment and allows our skaters to Skate Green
Green Skate Initiative:
At the present time there is not a manufacturer of rental skates made from recyclable material. We started the Green Skate Initiative as a way to allow advanced and competitive skaters a way to recycle their old skates with On Edge Skating. Boots and blades that are too worn out for advanced jumps may be junk for competitive skaters but these skates are perfect for skaters just starting out in skating.
Donated skates are used not only in our Learn to Skate Program but also rentals for casual skaters or they are used by skaters who due to the economy can’t afford new skates starting out. We do not charge for skate rental. This program recycles skates for the next generation of skaters both youth and adults. If you would like more information on this program or are interested in donating contact us for more information.
